LESION SHAPE SUGGESTIVE OF ROOT CANAL ANATOMY: This is a pretty good demonstration of periapical lesion associated with the canine tooth (#6). Pre-operative radiographic survey reveals that the lesion is off to the side at the apical third. Post-operative radiograph highlights a couple accessory canals providing a route of infection and inflammatory response in the area of the lesion. Good demonstration of anatomy here. […]
Should my Endodontist to be Competent in Implants?
IS IT BENEFICIAL FOR YOUR ENDODONTIST TO BE COMPETENT IN IMPLANT DENTISTRY? Here we present a patient that was referred to our office for “retreatment” of tooth #30. Upon radiographic survey and clinical evaluation, the tooth was deemed non-restorable primarily due to recurrent decay in the furcation area causing a secondary bone loss. To ensure that this tooth was the only significant dental need, communication was made both to ensure adequate interoffice communication (i.e. approval) and to ensure that there is no other dental needs of higher priority. After being given the greenlight to proceed with the procedure, extraction was […]
Looking Back On Our Summer Jobs
WHETHER IT WAS DURING high school or college, whether the goal was to have spending money or to pay rent, most of us know the struggles and the joys of working a summer job.Because we are feeling nostalgic as summer is in full force, we’ve collected summer job stories from members of our team! Worst Summer Job Ever Sometimes we find ourselves in summer jobs where the only good thing about them is that they only lasted a summer. Do any of our team’s stories sound familiar? TREATMENT PLANNING DILEMMAS
TREATMENT PLANNING DILEMMAS: Here we present a case with an initial presentation of a history of both non-surgical and surgical treatment (of the MB root). The patient’s chief complain included persistent pain. CBCT (not shown here) confirmed a lesion associated with the MB root. Interestingly, we also noted that surgery had been done on the MB canal but not he MB2 canal due to an incomplete root resection. The apical plug associated with the MB canal was intact. With the help of the patient’s lack of motivation to pursue surgery again, the decision was made to non-surgically retreat the case. One […]
WHAT YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT MOLAR ANATOMY
WHAT YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT MOLAR ANATOMY CBCT is slowly becoming the standard of care for endodontics for many reasons. In a tooth with a somewhat unusual root shape, such as the case demonstrated here, CBCT helps us determine the number of canals so that we can keep our accesses minimal and make informed decisions of where to look for accessory canals such as an MB2. This tooth had a conical root shape so a CBCT was taken to determine anatomy. As you can see below, this is a highly unusual anatomy where the DB root bifurcates to form four […]

DOUBLE CURVES
DOUBLE CURVES: These are a couple recent cases demonstrating double curves at the apical third of the roots. Sticking to sound instrumentation techniques are really helpful in cases like these to avoid separating files within the canal system. […]
RENOVO NOW OFFERING DERMATOLOGICAL TREATMENTS!
RENOVO NOW OFFERING DERMATOLOGICAL TREATMENTS! This case is a highly unusual example of a mandibular odontogenic lesion causing an extraoral sinus tract. This patient had already been to see his dermatologist for two biopsies with inconclusive results. After the area continued to bleed for several months, he found our office. A necrotic #27 was noted with lesion expanding to tooth #28 which had an untreated lingual canal with a separated lentulo spiral at the apex. RCT of #27 with adjunctive apicoectomy was completed. During surgery, the chin sinus tract was bleeding as we removed the granulomatous lesion. At his post-surgical […]
